We Made It!
Greetings from Eastern Europe!
You can scroll down and look at pictures first... then come back and read ;)
Thank you all for your prayers! Our travels have gone very well so far... Carson slept for a good 4-hour stretch on the long flight, but despite his restlessness the rest of the flight-time, he still was a trooper, and we didn't make any enemies of our cabin-buddies.
After landing in the capital city, we filed into line at immigration - there were several long lines, actually - and things were moving slowly... and guess who was the.very.last.person from our flight to make it through immigration... yes, yours truly.
Then our awesome driver Niko was waiting for us - this guy is funny and super helpful. He took us to exchange money, then took us to the market to buy a few groceries, minutes for our in-country cell phone, and dropped us at the apartment. He showed us how everything worked, made sure we knew how to use the phone, and how to walk to a few different places - including his favorite pizza joint - and then asked Carson to "give uncle Niko five" before heading out the door.
Priceless.
We were able to iChat with the girls online before they ate breakfast this morning and got ready for church... and then we chatted with them again after their lunch, before they napped. Carson was extremely excited to see his Sissies and was jumping up and down in front of the computer, squealing while we were trying to talk... so Jeff and I took turns taking him out of the room so the other could talk with the girls. I read them one of their favorite books before sending them off to naptime. It did my Mama-heart good.
After we crashed for a few hours into delirious sleep, we went for a late supper, and decided to walk down to the pizza place Niko was praising... After walking into the place, we quickly remembered we were Americans who only know one language... so after scratching our heads for a minute, I asked the girl behind the counter - in the best Russian I could muster up - if she understood English. She could not.
Thankfully, Jeff found a menu with some English on it, so we made our choices, and just used the point-and-nod method to order our pizza.
First attempt at ordering food on our own - success!
Now we're winding down at the apartment, and hopefully we'll get some quality rest tonight.
Thank you all for continuing to pray for us - we'll update again tomorrow.
