The Blessings in Disguise

A lot of you know we've been house-hunting. And a few weeks before Maggie came, we found the perfect house. It was exactly what we wanted at the right price, in the right location, and it even had a big, beautiful fig tree in the huge backyard. (I thought it was a "sign" because I've wanted a fig tree for a long time.)

But we didn't get that house. At first I was so disappointed. But then God gave me a closer look at the big picture.

The house we found wasn't even on the market. It was a "friend-of-a-friend" kind of thing. The couple wouldn't have even put their house on the market for several more months if we hadn't been interested in it.

While we were talking to mortgage companies, and God seemed to be closing every door of opportunity for getting into this house, another buyer came along - and for her, everything fell perfectly into place - God was opening all the doors for her.

The woman who just bought "our" little dream house is a cancer patient, about to go through some extensive treatment. She needed a house in the school district where her daughter attends, because she won't be able to drive her daughter to school in the coming months. If WE hadn't been interested in the house, this other woman would have never known it was for sale.

God had a plan, and we had a small part to play. Only this time the blessing was for someone else. So many times, it seems that things are just handed to us. Blessings chase us. God showed me through this that sometimes God disciplines His children - He matures them.

Through this whole journey, we've realized that we need to be men and women of integrity, and pay off some of our debt. We need to have a better plan for spending and saving money.

God had a tremendous blessing for the Israelites, and he brought them right to the Promised Land. But he didn't just hand it over to them; they had to conquer cities and occupy the land. All they had to do was believe, come up with a plan, and work a little bit - and the Promised Land would be theirs.

God showed me that all we have to do is believe, come up with a plan, work a little bit - and we'll get our Promised Land too. Only then we'll be stronger and more disciplined than if it were just handed to us. That's a blessing in disguise. Do you have any of those?
